Grazing ground in East Sussex, and what it needs.

Mostly High Weald clay (heavy, wet through the winter and slow to dry), with chalk downland running east towards Eastbourne. Rushes and poached gateways are common on the Wealden ground, and drainage often does more good than anything else.

Light chalk ground dries early, so harrowing and rolling can start sooner here than in most of the country. Topping runs through summer, and the heavier Wealden clay is best left until it has dried out properly to avoid rutting the field.

Not sure which of those your field needs? Describe what it looks like and the contractor will tell you: that’s their job, not yours.

One description, the right contractor.

You don’t need to know the machinery, the acreage or the technical term for the job. That’s our end.

Describe the job

In your own words: long grass, an overgrown paddock, a field that needs putting right. A photo of the field and the gateway helps, but isn’t required.

We sort the details

We work out what the job actually needs, check the area and the access, and confirm it all back to you before it goes anywhere.

Who does paddock maintenance in East Sussex?

We pass jobs to agricultural contractors covering East Sussex: 34 of them are in the network today. Describe what needs doing and the ones who cover your area get in touch with you directly.

How much does paddock topping cost in East Sussex?

It depends on the acreage, how heavy the growth is, how good the access is for machinery and how far the contractor travels to reach you, so the price comes from the contractor who’d do the work, not from us. Describing the job takes a minute and quotes are free.

Will someone come out to a small paddock in East Sussex?

Yes. A single pony paddock is a perfectly normal job. We handle work for private paddock owners and one-horse fields through to equestrian yards, smallholdings, farms and estates across East Sussex.

What if my field is in East Sussex but near the border?

Not a problem. Give us the postcode and we’ll match on where the field actually is. Contractors work across county lines all the time, and plenty cover more than one county.

Who runs this?

Emmerdale Agriculture Online Ltd, the company behind Hampshire Paddock Management, a contracting firm that does paddock work every day. You book and pay through us, and the contractor does the work.

How do I pay?

A 15% deposit by card to book the job, and the rest once the work is done and you have confirmed it, taken from the same card, due within 7 days of sign-off. The deposit is non-refundable if you cancel.
