Forage here

What Somerset makes and what that means for you.

This is wetter, grassier country, and it shows in what’s available: haylage and silage are the reliable crops, and good dry hay is a genuinely weather-dependent harvest: plentiful after a settled June, scarce after a wet one. Straw travels in from the eastern arable counties rather than being grown at scale here.

If you’re set on dry hay, ask early and be flexible on cut and bale size. Haylage suits harder-keeping horses and is usually the better-value local option, and because straw is largely imported into the region, delivery distance is a real part of what it costs.

Common questions

Somerset, answered.

Can you supply hay in Somerset?
Yes: we match hay, straw and haylage enquiries with suppliers across Somerset. Tell us the forage type, quantity and how you’d like it delivered or collected, and we’ll connect you with someone local who has it.
What types can I get?
Meadow and seed hay, barley and wheat straw, and haylage, in big square or round bales, or conventional small bales, by the load or the trailer-full.
How much does it cost?
Price depends on the forage type, bale size, quantity and distance, and it’s agreed directly with the supplier. Send an enquiry and we’ll come back with options, no obligation.
